2010 LIFE Runners Team (only 6 wks to go!)‏

SIOUX FALLS Half/Full MARATHON for ProLife (12 Sep)
* Mission: God first, Protect the Unborn (& parents), Encourage, Health
* Team (12): Jason/Deanna Peters, Rich/Erica Reich, Pat/Angi Castle, Brenda Ferrie, Becky Gregory, Rob Rysavy, Scott Casmer, John Shannon, Deborah Bertsch
------------------------------------
LIFE Runners -

We only have 6 weeks to go! Be sure to get registered. Over the next 3 weeks we will raise miles, prayers and funds...to help the Unborn (and parents). The funds we raise are for the Sioux Falls Alpha Center crisis pregnancy bus. The bus reaches women for free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and the Good News...saves lives! As of 30 Jul, the Alpha Center has received 10 donations ($982) for the LIFE Runners.
.
TEAM GOAL: By 22 Aug, each teammate donates to Alpha Center...and raises at least $200 (including your donation). Like training for a marathon, fundraising does indeed take sacrifice (time, courage)...not fun asking for $...but we are giving others an opportunity to save lives! Sponsors are typically a result of a personal invitation...let's ask others every day until the race.
.
INSPIRATION:
* "If we're ever going to see a rainbow [finish marathon, save lives], we have to stand a little rain [training, fundraising]." Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
* "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart." Jeremiah 1:5
* "Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to death; don't stand back and let them die." Proverbs 24:11
* "When it's all said and done, no one remembers how far we have run. The only thing that matters is how we have loved." Blink by Revive
.
To honor the Spirit of this marathon (for ProLife), let's stay focused with our prayerful running and sacrificial fundraising...in defense of the Unborn!

Our 2010 team is now at 12 runners...the same size as the Apostle's Team! Over the next month, we are in the toughest part of the marathon training (hot/humid weather, longest runs). The attached picture was taken after the 2009 Sioux Falls Half Marathon.
.
PRAYER: Runners run, and Christians pray...LIFE Runners do both! We are all pounding out the miles together in Spirit. Especially during our long weekend runs, let's unite our sacrifices as prayers for the freedom of the Unborn (and their parents), for our teammates, for our key team support, and for our sponsors.
.
FUNDRAISING: Ask others to sponsor you $/mile in support of the Sioux Falls Alpha Center crisis pregnancy bus. The bus reaches women for free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and the Good News...saves lives!
* For encouragement, Angi/I gladly sponsored all of our teammates, each for $1/mile. Go to Alpha Center and click on "donate." When you get to PayPal "review your donation" screen, click on "comments" (left of total) and write "LIFE Runners."
* To promote our ministry/fundraising efforts, Sue Peters contacted KSFY & KELO TV, O'G Re-U-Knighter & Knight Scroll, and the Bishops Bulletin. I will write an article for Sue to share.

Hi, LIFE Runners -

This is the point in the schedule when the training gets considerably more challenging: hot/humid weather, longer miles, nursing injuries, vacation running, etc. Offer all of these sacrifices up as a prayer for the freedom of the Unborn and their parents. Remember we are all out there pounding the miles together in Spirit. The attached picture was taken at Howard Wood Field soon before the start of the 2009 Sioux Falls Half Marathon...looking forward to getting our team picture taken in 9 wks!

REGISTRATION: Sioux Falls Marathon.

TEAM WEBSITES: Facebook Marathons for ProLife page and Marathons for ProLife blogsite (resources).

PRO-LIFE FUNDRAISER: We will add up our team donations...last year we raised over $2100. Ask your friends/family to sponsor you for $/mile to raise $ for the Sioux Falls Alpha Center (crisis pregnancies) Fleet for Little Feet (FFLF) bus. Kimberly Martinez (director), "The FFLF allows us to travel around the state and into other states to reach women with free pregnancy tests, ultrasound, STD testing, material support and the great news of Jesus Christ."
* For sponsoring runners, go to Alpha Center "donate" link...when you get to PayPal "review your donation" screen, click on the "comments" link (left of total) and write "LIFE Runners."
* Sue Peters is promoting our fundraising efforts. She has contacted KSFY & KELO TV, O'G Re-U-Knighter & Knight Scroll, Bishops Bulletin...and is working on connecting with parish youth coordinators & bulletins.
.
PRAYER: Aaron Ferrie shared this inspirational prayer...to untie any "nots" that creep into our training: "THE KNOTS PRAYER. Dear God, please untie the knots that are in my mind, my heart, my life. Remove the have nots, the can nots, and the do nots that I have in my mind. Erase all the will nots, might nots that may find a home in my heart. Release me from the could nots, would nots that obstruct my life. And most of all Dear God; I ask that you remove from my mind, my heart and my life all the “am nots” that I have allowed to hold me back, especially the thought, that I am not good enough."
.
To honor the "Spirit" of this marathon (for ProLife), let's all stay focused with our training...in defense of the Unborn (prayerful running, jersey, fundraising)!

2010 LIFE Runners Team (13 wks to go)

Sioux Falls Half/Full Marathon...for ProLife (Sun, 12 Sep)
* Mission: God first, Defend the Unborn, Encouragement, Health
* Full: Jason Peters, Rich Reich, Doug Young, Pat Castle, John Shannon, Rob Rysavy, Becky Gregory
* Half: Deanna Peters, Aaron/Brenda Ferrie, Angi Castle, Pam McGushin, Jolene Stillings, Erica Reich, Scott Casmer
--------------------------
Hi, LIFE Runners -

I had a hot, humid and heavy 14 mile run this past weekend...great praying/training weather! With higher humidity, the air holds less oxygen...which is like training at altitude (heavier load).

* LOGISTICS: Let me know if you would like to join any of the following activities on Sat, 11 Sep: morning tour of Sioux Falls, my grandfather's 90th birthday lunch at the Royal Fork, 4 PM Mass at St. Theresa, pre-race pasta dinner at Peters. We need to start thinking about registering: Sioux Falls Marathon. We also need to start getting everyone lined up with lodging.

* JERSEY: I have ordering info.

* TEAM SITES: Facebook Marathons for ProLife page and Sioux Falls Marathon for ProLife blogsite (resources)

* OTHER RACES?: Dash & Splask 5K (Angi/Pat, Collinsville IL, 10 Jul), Lewis & Clark Marathon (Angi, St. Charles MO, 3 Oct)

* PRO-LIFE FUNDRAISER: Ask your friends/family to sponsor you for $/mile to raise funds for the Sioux Falls Alpha Center (Fleet for Little Feet Bus)...info below. Rich and I will present a gift to the LIFE Runner who raises the most.

To honor the "Spirit" of the marathon, let's all train hard and defend the Unborn (prayer, jersey, fundraising)!

2010 LIFE Runners Team (getting ready)

SIOUX FALLS HALF/FULL MARATHON for ProLife (Sun, 12 Sep 2010)
* Mission: God first, Defend the Unborn, Encouragement, Health
--------------------------
Hi, LIFE Runners!

Here is a website with race details for the Sioux Falls Marathon...and a recent newspaper article about the race, Marathon Returns to City. Several of us ran the Sioux Falls half marathon last year...starts on the Howard Wood stadium track, through downtown, by the Falls, and then on the bike trail along the beautiful Sioux River. The full marathon was added this year. Your friends and family are welcome to join the LIFE Runners team. LIFE Runners are part of the LIFE Group Devotions and support the team mission (at top).

* JERSEYS: We will do another jersey order this summer.

* FACEBOOK: Marathons for ProLife page.

* TRAINING: The 18 wk marathon training program begins Mon, 10 May (schedules). The 12 wk half marathon training program begins Mon, 21 June (schedules).

* PRO-LIFE FUNDRAISER: With the 2009 TC Marathon, we raised over $2100 to help a FL crisis pregnancy center get an ultrasound machine. Ask your friends/family to sponsor you for $/mile to raise funds for the Sioux Falls Alpha Center Fleet for Little Feet (FFLF). The FFLF is a mobile pregnancy care center (click on bus picture at top). Kimberly Martinez (director) wrote, "The FFLF allows us to travel around the state and into other states to reach women with free pregnancy tests, ultrasound, STD testing, material support and the great news of Jesus Christ." For donations, go to Alpha Center "donate" link...once your sponsors begin their transaction, they will see a box that says: "Add special instructions to the seller." In this box, sponsors can write, "Life Runners"...the Alpha Center will designate their gift and code it appropriately. In case the online designation system fails, please keep track of your donations.

2009 ProLife fundraiser (ultrasound machine)

I was pleased to hear that our LIFE Runners team raised over $2100 for the ultrasound machine for A Woman's Answer (AWA) Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida.

I need to ask that all money collected for this cause please be mailed to me by November 1st, 2009. Please make checks out to the Knights of Columbus and mail them to PO Box 14044, Gainesville, FL 32604.

My Knights of Columbus council and the AWA staff are thrilled with how much money we raised. Our goal is to have the ultrasound machine purchased in time for AWA's first annual Banquet for Life on January 22, 2010 (37th anniversary of Roe v. Wade). Bishop Galeone will be the keynote speaker and it would be great to have him bless this machine during the ceremony. This means that I need to work fast on getting all of the necessary funds and paperwork complete. Thank you for your timely contributions to this worthy cause. I will keep you posted on our progress.

God bless,
Rich

2009 LIFE Runners Team (taper body, ramp up soul!)

TC Marathon for ProLife: 4 Oct (Respect Life Sunday)
* Team mission: God first, Defend the unborn (ProLife), Encouragement, Health
* Teammates: Dave, Jason, Doug, Rich, John, Steve, Pat, Angi (Quad Cities), Brenda/Aaron
-------------------------------
Hi, LIFE Runners -

We will line up in less than one week! Rich, Dave and me all fly in around 2:30 PM on Friday. Steve is going to pick us up at the baggage claim for my flight (Northwest Flt 1647 arriving 2:18 PM). We will check in at the Best Western Normandy (405 South 8th Street Minneapolis, MN 55404, 800-372-3131) and then find dinner. Anyone want to join us? On Saturday morning, let's head over to the Expo right after breakfast. We will meet Aaron/Brenda at the Expo, as they are staying in a different hotel. We will pick up Doug Sat at 3 PM, go to Mass somewhere at 5 PM, and then find a pre-race pasta meal somewhere. I will have a GPS and i-phone to find what we need. I have Doug's info to pick up his race packet for him at the Expo.
UPDATE: Angi, Paige and me ran for ProLife in the Quad Cities yesterday. Angi ran her fastest half marathon, hit the wall, and prayed her way to 26.2 miles...for ProLife! I ran the Quad Cities 5K with Paige (9)...Paige did it in 30:02 - youngest female, #1/3 div, 118/437 overall in her first race. Many people commented on our ProLife jerseys!

TRAINING (taper wk): The TC Marathon slogan is "train your body, prepare your soul." Be sure to follow the taper week schedule...it is an important part of the preparation. Also, try not to do any new physical fitness activity this week. Although we taper physically, let's ramp it up spiritually as we prepare our soul to defend the unborn!

PROLIFE FUND RAISER: Consider asking your friends/family to sponsor you for $/mile to raise $ for an ultrasound machine at Woman's Answer Medical Center. We can give Rich our donations this weekend.

Run for ProLife!
